Even though literally thousands of people dive in and visit the Marine Reserve every year, we have relatively little information about the marine life of the Reserve. You can help build up a picture of the wildlife of the Reserve and how it changes from year to year by getting involved in marine life monitoring. There are various methods suggested below:
Seasearch is a national project for volunteer SCUBA divers who have an interest in what they’re seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment around the coasts of Britain and Ireland.
The Shore Thing is an initiative of MarLIN, the Marine Life Information Network and works with schools and volunteer recorders to collect information on the marine life of rocky shores around Britain.
The Big Sea Survey is a project run by Newcastle University’s Dove Marine Laboratory which uses volunteers to collect information about species living in our coastal marine environment. It is focused in the north east of England but creeps over into the border in Berwickshire as marine life knows no boundaries!
- A simple recording form designed by the VMR for divers and shore goers who spot species of interest to us.
- We are very keen to receive your sightings, reports and photos of what you see when you’re out and about in the Reserve. Use this form to help us build up a picture of the marine life of the Reserve.
