There are 2 sandy beaches within the Voluntary Marine Reserve, Eyemouth Beach and Coldingham Bay.
Coldingham Bay is a sandy beach framed by rocky shore on either side and at low tide the rockpools are an excellent place to explore. The beach has a cafe, toilets, disabled access and car parking in addition to picturesque beach huts, some of which are thought to be over 100 years old. A regular bus from Berwick-upon-Tweed visits Coldingham village which is about a 1km walk down an unclassified road to the beach. The beach is manned by lifeguards every day during July and August and at the weekends in June.
St Vedas Surf Shop is situated just 100 metres from the beach and provides a number of services including: surfing lessons, hire of surfing, body boarding, kayaking and snorkelling equipment, accommodation and has a bar and cafe. The knowledgeable staff can also provide information about surfing conditions, currents and safety. Visit the St Vedas Surf Shop website for more information.
Eyemouth Beach is located nearby to all the facilities that Eyemouth Town has to offer. The rockpools that are revealed at low tide are also excellent for rockpooling.
The VMR Marine Ranger regularly runs events such as Seashore Safaris at Coldingham Sands and Eyemouth Beach. Visit our events page for more information.
