Big Sea Survey comes to St Abbs

The St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve (VMR) is recruiting volunteers to participate in the Big Sea Survey project. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run by Newcastle Universitys Dove Marine Laboratory. A training event is being held in St Abbs on 18th July which will enable volunteers to get involved in the project.
As a volunteer you will get the opportunity to find out more about the fascinating species inhabiting our coasts. No previous experience is necessary. Training will be provided and you will get the chance to learn about field surveying, recording and species identification. The level of involvement is then completely up to you and will fit well into busy lives.
This project is very important as the information collected will be valuable to scientists and to coastal managers, helping them to make decisions about the protection of our rich biodiversity. It could provide baseline information on changes that may occur to our marine life due to climate change or pollution.
To get involved in the project volunteers need to attend the training event being held on July 18th in St Abbs. To sign up for the training event and for more information please contact the VMR Ranger, Georgia Conolly, by calling (018907) 71443 or emailing [email protected].
