Seabirds settling in for the summer
The first guillemot egg of the year was spotted on the ledges today, which is a bt earlier than usual. However, this is a sign that the seabirds are now just about settled in for the season.
As always the seabirds are very unsettled in the early part of the breeding season. One day they will all be in on the cliffs and the next they will all have disappeared out to sea again. But once eggs are laid they are committed, with either the mother or father having to brood the egg. Now that one has been spotted many more will follow.
