Photo of the month - there\'s a shark in the Marine Reserve!

August's photo of the month comes from Alan Pollock, regular down at St Abbs, who captured this cracking photo of a dog fish relaxing at Black Carr!
The common dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula) isn't that commonly spotted in the Marine Reserve, however this one has made a few appearances lately with a number of divers getting in touch and sending in photos.
Dogfish are mainly nocturnal, and during the day can frequently be seen lying 'asleep' on the seabed. Divers have been known to pick them up in this state, although I don't recommend it, being a firm advocate of the 'look but don't touch policy' and they may curl their rough bodies around your arm and bite you - so best to look but not touch!
Well done Alan on this lovely photo, and for a chance to have one of your photos on the website, send them into: [email protected] and help the Ranger find out more about the wonderful wildlife beneath the waves.
