A day in the (wild) life...
People often ask what the typical day is like working as a Ranger, and the answer I give most people is there is no typical day! Some seem to think we spend our time chatting to divers down at the harbour or paddling about it rockpools, so it may seem surprising to some folk that there is a lot of serious behind the scenes work that goes on to keep things running smoothly.
One of the biggest tasks I have to do is fundraising for the future of the VMR Ranger post, as current funding runs out in February 2011, and this involves lots of office based background research and time.
In order to help visitors build up a picture of day to day life managing a nature reserve, Liza Cole (former VMR Ranger and current St Abbs Head Property Manager) has set up a blog to help you keep up to date with goings on at St Abbs Head and the VMR. The blog is called St Abbs Rangers as it encompasses both the work of the Marine Reserve and National Nature Reserve as we work very closely to conserve and enhance the wildlife of this fantastic coastline. You can access the blog and find out what were getting up to by visiting www.stabbsrangers.blogspot.com
