Easter Weekend a blow-out
Easter weekend provided a spectacular start to the diving season at the Marine Reserve, but not in the way everyone had hoped! The Berwickshire coast was battered all weekend by storms that the local fishermen were saying they hadn't witnessed for perhaps a quarter of a century.
Things got particularly exciting at St Abbs Harbour where high tides combined with equinoxial gales resulting in enormous seas crashing against the harbour - much to the awe and delight of the people who had gathered there to marvel at the force of nature. Conditions were particularly bad in the early hours of Easter Saturday when much of the lower car park was underwater and the Harbourmaster's Office got relocated by about 15 foot! Thank goodness the VMR trailer survived unscathed but Billy Aitchison at Rock House did wonder that it didn't float away!
Here are some photos to give you a flavour of what it was like.
