Marine Ranger post safe for another three years!
Being a small charity, the Marine Reserve relies on grants and donations to fund the Marine Ranger and their work. With the present round of funding running out at the end of February, the Marine Ranger has been working hard over the last year or so to try and secure funding for 2008-11.
As is often the case with funding, things went very close to the wire, in fact the Marine Ranger only had abut 2 weeks to go before the end of her contract before it was confirmed that she had secured enough funding, and that her job was safe.
"It was getting a little scary there for a while, but we got there in the end!" says Marine Ranger, Liza Cole. "Many thanks go to the National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, The Crown Estate and the Esme Fairbairn Foundation for their support. Without them Scotland's only Voluntary Marine Reserve, which will celebrate its Silver Jubilee in 2009, would not be able to employ a Marine Ranger to carry out its valuable work."
