Killer whale North of St Abbs Head!
The passengers of the local glass bottomed boat had a fantastic experience yesterday - a surfeit of cetaceans! First off a pod of 4 Rissos dolphins, not a common sight, closely followed by 2 minke whales and then a brief glimpse or two of a killer whale, definately a rare sighting.
Sadly neither the Orca or the Rissos were seen again that day, but later on 3 minke whales were watched for a good while round about 5pm off Petticowick, north of St Abbs Head. And then another 2 at about 8pm off the Head.
So definitely worth keeping your eyes peeled! Look out for the boiling water surface which indicates the shoal of fish (probably herring) on which the cetaceans feed, and there may even be birds such as gannets diving in after the fish too.
